Carbotech Srl has recently received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its Scope 1 (internal operations) and Scope 2 (energy supply) greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets by 2030.
The SBTi is a partnership between the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), the United Nations Global Compact, the WRI (World Resources Institute) and the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), established in 2015 to help companies set emissions reduction targets in line with the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global temperature rise to 1,5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
Scope 1 emissions refer to direct emissions resulting from the company's operations, such as those from sources owned or controlled. For example, emissions generated by the use of boilers and company vehicles belong to Scope 1. Scope 2 emissions include indirect emissions from the production of energy purchased and consumed by the company, such as electricity, heat and steam.
Carbotech Srl, operating in the automotive and industrial sectors, is committed to reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030, starting from 2021 as a baseline.
The company is also planning to measure its Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions in the near future, which include emissions generated for the procurement of raw materials, activities related to the procurement of fuels and energy and transportation of finished products.
Carbotech has adopted these targets because recognizes the importance of taking action against climate change contributing to global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, pursuing these targets strengthens Carbotech's competitive position, preparing for a future in which sustainability will become increasingly crucial to business success.
Further details on the validation of Carbotech's climate targets are available on the official SBTi website.
